Social problems and society
I wasn't an "Islamic" person and rarely talked about religion since that's not my expertise. I mostly refer to scholars and muftis, but looking at society through IIUMC Confession really scares me. Though it may not represent the full aspects of real life, this story surprised me a lot—like, "Nang ada kah camtok?!" Anecdotal information like that shapes people's perspectives towards our world. For example, recently there have been so many LGBT-related confessions where close family members were involved in homosexual acts that started from harassment in boarding school! And there are others like infidelity among married couples, zina among youth, affairs with their lecturers, and sexual harassment. Neoliberal and individualism advocates would say that it doesn't affect anything—yet it does.
Have you ever heard of spider shelters? This was mentioned in Surah Al-Ankabut, where the flimsiest of all shelters is certainly that of a spider. Generally, female spiders 🕷️ act dead so male spiders can mate with them (necrophilia), and immediately after mating, the female spider eats the male spider. Once the female spider gives birth to its spiderlings 🕷️, the newborns have to run away or get eaten by their mother. In some species, the spiderlings will eat the mother or eat each other. That's why spiders can't form civilizations like ants (just kidding, lol)¹.
Infidelity and cheating among married couples could lead to higher divorce rates, affecting children's well-being, where "daddy issues" and "mommy issues" come from. Previously, I wrote a kind of spoiler to "Kita cuma kawan kan," where our protagonist, Adam Adwa, had "mommy issues" after his family divorced, and he was mistreated by his own mother, who once abused him, spreading fitnah (many times) on him. Divorce among parents could lead to psychological impacts on children, emotional challenges, and cause many social problems, leaving us with questions for our future.²
Changes in family structure change how the economy is. You might have heard about the birth of the Joshi Kosei phenomenon in Japan just after the bubble economy burst. This changed consumer spending patterns, where people no longer wanted to spend on traditional things. Instead, they began spending on what is called "adult entertainment," and yet Japan has never really recovered from 'The Lost Decade' and economic stagnation. People might blame the Plaza Accord, but that's not the only factor; mismanagement and scandals also play an important part. Yamaichi collapsed after the Central Bank and Japanese Government saved them from bankruptcy multiple times. A domino effect causes many problems for Japan. Okay, this needs a different post.
Due to increasing HIV infections among students³, KPT is considering making HIV testing mandatory for new students. This is really concerning, as it connects to the stigma that "boarding school is a birthplace of homosexual acts." One reason for this is the access to pornographic information based on Akhi Fairuz Al Jengkawi. We shouldn't be apologetic about this; infidelity and cheating are products of various factors such as pornography addiction, nafs-oriented behavior, and reading many confessions. It's hard to escape from addiction (since it's something related to the brain and hormones). I remember one phrase from a book by a philosopher who was sentenced to death: "I have a desire, but desire has you," which indicates a deep meaning.
P.S.: Actually, I am working on some stuff regarding internet censorship.
Footnote:
¹ Prehistoric ants socially are like spiders. They never form groups.
